Description
Generic name: Ciclopirox Olamine
Drug class: Broad-spectrum antifungal agent.
Common formulations: topical cream (e.g., 0.77%), lotion, solution.
Usage: For superficial fungal infections of skin (such as ringworm, jock itch, athlete’s foot) and in some cases nail infections.

Skin fungal infections: e.g.
Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot)
Tinea cruris (jock itch)
Tinea corporis (ringworm on body)
Nail fungal infection (onychomycosis) for topical solution form.
⚠️ Mechanism of Action (kaise kaam karta hai)
Ciclopirox olamine works by chelating metal ions (Fe³⁺ or Al³⁺) in fungal cells, which inhibits metal-dependent enzymes needed for fungal survival.
Also may disrupt fungal cell membrane, intracellular transport, DNA repair and cell division. It also has some anti-inflammatory properties.
🧪 Dosage & Administration
For topical cream (0.77%): Apply twice daily (morning & evening) to affected skin + surrounding area.
For nail infection solution: Usually apply once daily at bedtime after trimming nails.
Important: Even if symptoms improve, complete full course is necessary to avoid recurrence.
Storage: Store at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children.
🚫 Contra-indications & Precautions (kab na use karein / savdhaani)
Avoid use if hypersensitivity (allergy) to ciclopirox or any excipient.
Do not apply in eyes, inside mouth, nose, vagina unless instructed.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
Children: Safety in younger age groups may not be established for all formulations.
⚠️ Side-effects
Common: Local irritation — redness, burning, itching at application site.
Less common but serious: Blistering, swelling or oozing at treated area — if these occur, stop use and consult doctor.
